Project Next Students Visit San Diego Airport Authority for Take Flight Program

As part of their commitment to career exploration and practical learning, students from Project Next recently had the unique opportunity to visit the San Diego Airport Authority through the Take Flight program. This immersive experience provided students with an insider’s view of the vibrant ecosystem that keeps an international airport running smoothly.

The day began with an engaging panel discussion where students heard from key professionals at the Airport Authority. Panelists shared insights into their diverse roles, ranging from construction management to the arts, procurement, airport traffic and even painting. The students were captivated as they learned about the wide array of careers available at the airport and the dynamic nature of the aviation industry. The panelists also shared their personal career journeys, offering valuable advice and inspiration to the students as they contemplate their future paths. “What I liked best about today's event was the panelists' openness and transparency about their experiences and their path into their careers today,” said one student.

After the panel, the students embarked on an exclusive VIP tour of the airport’s facilities. This special tour took them behind the scenes, where they observed operations from the runway—a rare treat that underscored the complexity and precision required in airport logistics. Students also had the chance to witness the construction of the new terminal, gaining a first-hand look at the ambitious expansion efforts and the innovative infrastructure projects shaping the future of the airport.

The Take Flight program aims to bridge classroom learning with real-world applications, fostering curiosity and providing young people with a broader perspective on potential career paths. For the students of Project Next, the visit to the San Diego Airport Authority was more than just an educational field trip—it was an eye-opening experience that sparked enthusiasm and ambition.

By participating in such programs, students not only expand their understanding of potential career opportunities but also build connections and gain insights that empower them to make informed decisions about their futures. The San Diego Airport Authority’s involvement in community engagement through programs like Take Flight is a testament to its dedication to nurturing the next generation of leaders in aviation and beyond.
