A Changing Downtown
Our downtown landscape is experiencing quite a renewal. The Main Street revival has ushered in a huge new ministry opportunity in The Hub. Currently, over eight hundred people, the vast majority being college students, reside at The Hub, and it sits right across the street from the Y building. Future opportunities to reach the downtown community will be manifested in the proposed apartments in the former AgFirst building and the complete renovations to occur on Bull Street. It goes without saying that the addition to our campus of a building dedicated to the spiritual well-being of students will fill a great need for ministry in the downtown area.
The project which Project: NEXT will support is acquisition of the building and the renovation of the first phase. When completed this phase will provide:
• A Student Center of approximately 30,000 sq. ft. in the former Gymnasium building, including an auditorium, small group meeting spaces, gathering, gaming and hang-out space.
• Dedicated space for College Ministry meetings, socials, study groups, get-togethers, etc.
• Significant infrastructure work such as electrical up-fitting, fire safety improvements and tailoring the HVAC system to new building configurations.
The goal for Project: NEXT is $6 Million. This includes the purchase of the YMCA building and the first phase of renovations.
The starting line: Project: NEXT will be kicked off with a “Public Launch” on April 12 and will culminate in a church-wide Commitment Event on Sunday, May 3, 2015. The giving period for Project: Next will be May 2015 – April 2018 and pledges will be for this 3-year period.
What can we do now? Please join us in prayer that God will continue preparing our church to wisely navigate the great responsibility ahead of us. Pray also that He will make clear in your heart how He would have you participate.
Project: NEXT. It’s about saving the next generation. The best is yet to come!
